  • Shot blasting technology includes shot blasting and shot blasting (sandblasting), also known as sandblasting, sandblasting, and bead blasting in some industries. In the early days, it was mainly used for removing sand and oxide scale from castings and forgings. Shot blasting relies on high-speed rotating impellers to eject sand particles at high speeds into the workpiece, typically at a speed of 50-100m/s; Shot blasting is driven by compressed air and sprayed by a spray gun at a speed of generally 30-50m/s. Both methods achieve surface treatment through impact and friction. In the 1930s, foreign companies made shot blasting machines; China's shot blasting equipment began in the 1950s, with a focus on imitation in the early stages. In the early 1960s, domestic drum type shot blasting cleaning machines were introduced, marking China's transition from imitation to independent research and development, and the industry gradually moving towards specialization. After long-term development, the spray shot blasting equipment has been continuously improved, and its application has expanded from surface cleaning of castings to multiple fields such as metallurgy, machinery, automobiles, ships, aviation, etc. The process scope has also extended to metal component strengthening, surface processing, forming and other directions. At present, thousands of specifications of equipment have been formed, and equipment upgrades further promote the expansion of technology and applications. Abrasive is the core medium of shot blasting process, which is divided into various types according to material, shape, hardness, and particle size, directly affecting the processing quality, and together with the equipment, forming a complete shot blasting system. The process of using metal abrasives is usually called shot blasting, while the use of non-metallic abrasives such as quartz sand is often referred to as sandblasting.
